Kursbeschreibung
Explore Venice with pen, ink and watercolour. Professional Urban Sketcher Ian Fennelly will show you techniques and methods that help you to create your own lively, atmospheric and idyllic sketches. Learn to find your individual style and fill your sketchbook step by step. Inspired by the charm of the beautiful Venetian scenery you’ll be able to capture your favourite travel memories with brush and pen.
“A city of marble palaces built on a lagoon”. When one thinks of Venice, one thinks of romance, stone bridges, canals and waterways snaking their way through the city, breath-taking architecture, and most of all: art. How about creating your own art? Your very own work of art that will always remind you of a wonderful sketching holiday in a magnificent city.
Ian will teach you about composition and structure of the sketch, how you choose the perfect perspective and how to train your eye to recognize what is important for your work and reduce it to the essential. All of this and so much more will be implemented in many drawing and sketching sessions together. The course aims to deepen your skills in sketching, drawing and watercolouring, to exchange views and to capture atmospheric sceneries of Venice in your own works of art.
You will find hospitality in the beautifully built former monastery “Don Orione Artigianelli” that provides an atmosphere of ancient times and inspiration for your art as well as a quiet place in the city centre of Venice. Being located right behind the Gallerie dell’Accademia with direct overview on the Zattere quayside and on Guidecca Canal it is the perfect accommodation for anyone who is interested in art and capturing beautiful views!
You will draw in town and deal with the depiction of buildings and city life. Topics will be adjusted to the skill-level of the participants. You will be motivated through little sketches and stories throughout the course that will give you new ideas and stimuli. You will mostly work with pen, ink and watercolour.
Target group: (all levels) This course is meant to be for beginners as well as for advanced learners.
Where do we sketch/draw? We will draw and sketch mainly outside en plein air, so you shouldn’t mind walking short distances on foot. Nevertheless, if the weather is bad we usually have access to the studio inside the monastery, where we can draw and sketch, too.
The Person
Ian Fennelly has always been fascinated by the urban environment, he loves the atmosphere of a busy city. He paints pretty quickly and nonchalantly, but the painting process as a whole has to take place in a very precise context – like a frame that holds the picture. The artist gathers inspiration for his works by visiting many places and spending time there, meeting new people and letting the surroundings affect him.
